Little Benjamin Wheeler was buried in Newtown, Connecticut last week, one of twenty first-graders who died in the mass shooting. At the funeral, grieving friends and family played the tune “Here Comes the Sun” for the budding Beatles fan. With all respect for the various faith traditions that give us comfort when we bury a child, may I suggest this one respelling of the lyrics of George Harrison’s beautiful Abbey Road song?
Here comes the Son; here comes the Son, and I say
It’s all right
Little darling; It’s been a long and lonely winter
Little darling; It seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the Son; here comes the Son, and I say
It’s all right
Little darling; The smiles returning to their faces
Little darling; It seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the Son; here comes the Son, and I say
It’s all right
Little darling; I feel like ice is slowly melting
Little darling; It seems like years since it’s been clear
Here comes the Son; here comes the Son, and I say
It’s all right
I am the Resurrection and the Life. John 11:25
