This is a compelling and very readable account of the global rise of ISIS. Reading it, one definitely gets a sense of the strange and persistent allure of this craven movement and its butchery. I find it interesting that, as many Americans sniff at President Obama’s refusal to categorize ISIS as “radical Islamic terrorism,” key leaders in the Muslim faith stoutly agree with him. Al-Azhar’s grand imam, Ahmed el-Tayeb, was exhorted by Jordan’s King Hussein to publicly denounce ISIS in all its forms. The spiritual leader went further even than that, stating emphatically: “ISIS is not merely un-Islamic, [they are] Satanic.” Any citizen who longs for an end to this scourge will find the book must-reading.
